“An abstract painting is a nonobjective, artistic composition, made by applying paints to a painting surface. Its artistic content depends on internal form, rather than pictorial representation; a concept or idea not associated with any specific instances.” – G.N.V
Gadi Veneziano, a contemporary abstract artist-painter, specializes in the creation of original, mixed media, abstract paintings. These abstractions are skillfully rendered using the so called mixed media technique. This modern artistic approach was initially developed by Picasso and Braque. By exploring various media and materials, Gadi is able to enhance the color, form, and textural aspects of each piece of original artwork. Thus, by using various amounts of acrylic paint, oil paint, various paint mediums, gels, pastes, sand, grains, and glass, Gadi seems to virtually breathe life into the once inanimate blank canvas.
Artist and Writer, Gadi Veneziano, paints powerful examples of original, contemporary, abstract art. Furthermore, although Gadi Veneziano has been mentored by some great Artists such as Walter Nicolai (Keene, NH), and Chris Wakefield (Anchorage, AK), among others, Gadi proclaims to be a self taught artist with an unconventional artistic background. His life’s history and experiences are truly impressive and unique. Born in Tel-Aviv, Israel until the age of 13, while spending summers in Florence, Italy, Gadi grew up in very different cultures and surroundings. Upon moving to the US, Gadi studied at the University of New Hampshire where he earned two Bachelors. He continued his love for travel by living in Boston, Vermont, New Hampshire, Colorado, Alaska and the Berkshires of western Massachusetts before moving to San Diego in May of 2007.
Gadi chooses to specialize in abstract art because it allows more artistic freedom and creativity. The process of painting nourishes him on many levels. His influences come from his many life experiences living in many places, both in the US as well as world-wide. His love for world travel, cultural learning, and inner struggles is what fuels his artistic intensity. Intense emotions and every day thoughts are presented both by his Paintings, as well as his Poetry. Incorporating surreal imagery, fragmented geometric forms, a vivid array of colors, and by using mixed media, he has been able to enhance the visual and textural aspects of his paintings.
“His Paintings and Poems reflect his interpretation of life and travels. They evoke the mood of his surrounding in all aspects as he continues to glide through life. “
- B.G.
“Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how. The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.”
- Agnes de Mille
Artist Statement
My greatest inspirations for my paintings come from my darkest memories, emotional pain, the many countries and cultures I have traveled to in my life, as well as my day to day life. If I have a vivid dream at 3am, I simply walk over to my studio, and start throwing paint around. I don’t paint for other people. I paint for myself. I paint to capture an emotion or feeling or memory so I can “let it go” and cleanse myself. It was not until August of 2007 that I decided to share my paintings with the world, and began to live my life as a full time professional artist.
Without my “differences”, I would not be an artist today. Who I am has only added to my work. It is ALL of my work. My unique background and ability to speak and “paint” in 3 languages brings a unique touch to my work which I believe separates me from other artists, and perhaps any specific “art style”. There is nothing more satisfying to me than to express my individuality on my canvasses. When I see people looking at my work, I feel they are looking into my soul without having to ask me deep questions directly. This makes me extremely happy & grateful for being the person I am.
